Trident Maple Bonsai & Prebonsai for Sale

Pickup, Delivery, and Shipping Options/Policy

Local pickup is free in the Columbus, Ohio area, or pickup is also available when I road trip, especially to bonsai shows around my area of the Midwest. Delivery is also free if not more than 15 minutes out of my way from home or on any of these trips. See here for the most updated list of pickup sites/delivery routes I will be making in the coming months

If you would like to have any of my products shipped to you, see my Etsy page invivobonsai.etsy.com (almost all prices include shipping) or contact me if the item is not listed on my Etsy and I'll look into a cost estimate. Contacting me can also get you a cheaper price than buying through Etsy as there will be fewer fees and shipping multiple items can be combined.

Trees are the hardest to ship due to height, unusual size, and uneven weight so these are ideal for the local pickup. I will try to add more trees this summer/fall to my online store here and Etsy though for your convenience.

Trident Maple / Acer buergerianum Bonsai Available in Columbus, Ohio from In Vivo Bonsai

Trident maple are native to Japan and eastern Asia and have a long history of use in bonsai. They tolerate warm and cold weather and thicken their trunks and branches easily, especially in the ground or larger pots. They also fuse roots easily moreso than other species, making them popular for the root over rock style. You can prune them just about anywhere and they will backbud. They also get vibrant red/orange fall colors during expose to cold before winter dormancy (they must stay outdoors). I may add more care information later, but feel free to ask if you have any questions in the meantime!

The trees on this page all were started from seed and grew for 5 years in the ground to thicken trunks (due to planting density, this worked better for some than others). Following that, I pruned and dug them nearly 2 springs ago and let them grow wild. At the end of last fall, I pruned them back for the first time to promote tight internodes on their next regrowth of branches, hence they look sparse for now. These trees would be great in a forest planting together or as individual trees. A bulk discount can be arranged if you want to pursue the forest idea.

TM1, TM2, TM3 - Thicker Upright Trunks, 7 yrs old. ~$75 except the middle one due to air layering multi-tree potential.

TM2 in the middle has interesting potential features in the upper trunk which would make it suitable for an air layer in spring. Photographed December 2025.
